I GOT THE PART FOR THE LEAD IN A TV SHOW!
Here is my character im playing:
Jake Shafer. Undeniable, mysterious, and
always getting what he wants. Sophomore.
His ‘fit’? He’s a budding journalist—he’s
soon to be the youngest editor-in-chief of
the school newspaper, The Daily Mariner, in
the history of McMahon. And when I say he
always gets what he wants, I’m referring to
girls. He’s the most desired underclassman—
hands down.
The first scene!
AUBREY
(trying to act as if
She is not won over).
We can’t just keep doing this. I’ve
missed like three classes this month.
JAKE.
Screw it.
AUBREY.
Aren’t you worried that you’ll, like,
get detention for skipping?
JAKE.
For skipping Hike and Track? It’s not
like Mr. Weaver will even care. I’ll just
go into him and say that you and I were
‘trailblazing our own paths together’.
He’s chill. He’ll understand.
AUBREY.
Not that understanding.
JAKE.
He has a girlfriend, doesn’t he?
AUBREY
(teasing).
Ew!
JAKE.
Or I’ll just say that I had some huge
article due for The Mariner at five that
would not have gotten done if I didn’t skip.
There. What’s your excuse?
AUBREY.
I was…uh…doing my math homework?
JAKE.
Lame!
AUBREY.
I was…sick?
JAKE.
With what?
AUBREY.
Stomach flu!
JAKE.
There we go. And you—
AUBREY
(innocently).
Couldn’t get out of bed. I’m so sorry. I
wanted to be there when we learned about—
JAKE.
The Medici family.
AUBREY.
The Medici family. I really did.
They joke around, and he kisses her more.
AUBREY.
You know what we could do right now that
would be totally fun?
He is instantly serious.
JAKE.
Aubrey.
AUBREY.
Come on, Jake.
JAKE
(shaking his head).
Ehh…
Aubrey sits back, irritated.
AUBREY.
We’ve been hooking up since, like, the
beginning of school. You’re seriously
the only guy on this campus who can keep
it in his pants.
JAKE.
I don’t know, Aubs.
Aubrey rolls her eyes.
AUBREY.
Why do I even do this? You’re so like—I
don’t know—annoying—and you—
She attempts at being mad and tries to get up but he pulls her back gently.
JAKE.
Come on, don’t be mad.
They begin to kiss. She pulls back, obviously charmed but trying to deny it.
AUBREY.
Don’t get used to this—winning me over—
I’m not going to—just keep falling—
She melts into him, obviously won over. They continue to kiss.
