Here are my thoughts on how to make the most out of HS.
This mainly has to do with using the environment that you have in front of you and making the best of it. if you want something more inner game and self improvement, look here:highschoolpuas.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=confidence&action=display&thread=1523
Some basic personality traits you should look into:
carefree (most important IMO)
humble
having integrity
having fun all the time
patience
forgiveness for others, and ESPECIALLY YOURSELF
nonjudgmental (ALSO SUPER IMPORTANT)
proactive/risk taking
Join extracurriculars & assume a leadership role
extracurriculars is the easiest way to meeting people. join as many as you can, then funnel them down and find 1 or 2 that you absolutely love, also consider the type of people they are and if you enjoy being around them as well. assuming a leadership role is learning how to take a stand and become a real leader. hang out with the club leader and notice his tendencies as a leader and try and emulate them on your own.
Talk to everyone
this is a no-brainer, but the ONLY way to learn how to be social is to always talk. be the guy who the teacher says "be quiet and pay attention" to. crack jokes during class, flirt with girls. your mouth should be non-stop. say things that YOU think are funny. if you dont know how to talk and have a good conversation. there are dozens of posts about it, stop being lazy and research it yourself.
Run for office
it looks awesome for college, and it puts you in a legitimate leadership role. you'll learn a lot of skills in this than trying to read anything on this forum on how to be a leader. DO IT.
Getting to know the front office receptionists
they are the gatekeepers. when you're late or something or you're in trouble, they can definitely vouche for you. if you game ANYONE, GAME THEM. (that is, if they're women)
Watch out for cliqueyness & Hang out with as many different people as possible
if your starting out, it's easy once you find friends, to start just hanging around them all the time. it's nice, but have 2 or 3 other cliques that you can hang out with during lunch, break, whatever.
Get different people to hangout with you
this is different because you're esssentially the one bringing different people from different cliques to go hangout with you. you're being the "social bridge" (check out conquer your campus for more of that)
Go to parties
don't be afraid to ask your new friends what they're doin friday night/etc. if you're cool and chill and not all fuckin needy about it. they'll invite you.
Throw a party
party thrower is the ultimate social leader. i've never done this, but my sister always did back in the day. you'll need like 4-5 super close friends to monitor around for you. preferably with walkie talkies. lock all your doors, and yeah you're not gonna be partying as much as you will be monitoring your place and make sure everyone's having a good time.
drink/drugs
Disclaimer: I am not responsible for any liabilities, and this is purely informational and is in no way made to provoke any sort of action. (In case one of you jackasses tries to pin me for your fuck ups ) My thoughts on it? Try it if you want to. If you don't like it, then it's fine. No one said you have to drink or do drugs to have fun. It's all preference. I know in my school hella people smoke, and it's much easier to kick it with people, but that might not always be the case. take advantage of your environment when you can, but never, ever give up your values/beliefs just to try and "fit in."
Stop trying to be popular.
fuck popularity. it's a bunch of shallow ass bullshit. if you really want the approval of those "cool" people who are SO cliquey. let me tell you something. that's all that they're for. they won't get far in life if they value people's opinions like that. hell they might, you never know, but they're so caught up in the little world of high school, they really don't know anything else besides it. keep that in mind next time you get amogged by one of the cool popular kids. in fuckin 5 years this shit isn't gonna matter. don't get caught up in the politics of it. realize that reality and perception is as malleable and flexible as you want it to be. this is especially prominent in high school, but it's also the same in real life.
Feel free to add anything else, but ALSO EXPLAIN WHY ITS IMPORTANT.
Cheers,
Patrick
