I really hope your teachers a guy as much they say you can write whatever, they have personal biases. I wrote a similar essay, on the topic of masculinity, and included fight club. "we are a generation of men raised by women" didn't go over well :$ great essay, good mark

Lol my teacher is a guy and he did at least see fight club. This was good and bad. Bad cause he rejected my first thesis and wanted me to do it his way. Good cause I was able to look more deeply into the book
