So I was talking to the girl I like I asked to get her number & she said she didn't know me that well and couldn't give it to me & and her friend was like its not good to talk to strangers. I don't know what to say now though it seems kind of awkward

More info about the girl; did you already know her? Was it a cold approach? How long had you been talking to her?
Just in general though, you should of asked her "Well then how do you meet new people?"
