You don't really have to do it in person first. Be playful about and don't just randomly say it in conversation, it has to be relevant. Reread the first post again.

I'm guessing that it's not in line with your personality. If something canned sounds wrong to you before you even say it... don't say it, it's probably not matching your personality.
