Exactly. I really think that bitch shields are signs of discomfort.
So the more comfortable you make others around you, I believe shields should not arise.

Well when she faces you (hooks you) is when you turn, but that is indirect game.

There is also more direct game, but indirect. Mehow teaches open directly by going head on and teasing. This isn't DIRECT as in showing interest, but it is a more straight forward approach.

By showing open body language (with your hands), you will make them feel more comfortable. But be sure to show some iod's, if you know what your doing.
