Clothing affecting sociality?

In my school, all the guys wear t shirts, jeans and nikes. How I dress, I mostly wear button ups, I used to wear cowboy boots - but now I have diesel shoes, and nice jeans. How I dress really makes me stand out from everyone else.

Now here is the problem. Dressing like this, makes me feel like I am not fitting in, and it can feel awkward when you are talking in a group of people, and your so dressed up.

My coach told me today to fit in more with people, by dressing like them. I told him I get compliments from girls, and he said well is that really a good thing? You don't have a gf. Put you next to a guy in levis, a t shirt, and nikes and he is getting pussy from his girlfriend, but she is complimenting you? I've been teaching for 20 years, and every high school generation has a way they dress. Why not dress like them? When in rome, do what the romans do.

Now that really makes me wonder, and I think it might show poor calibration on my part. For one, you are dressing up too stylish for school (dress to the occasion, the way I dress would defiantly fly at a party, but at school its awkward possibly).

So im thinking about toneing it down to t shirts (nice ones though) and still jeans. So to some point, you can still be stylish but not indifferent.

Also I realized something, I moved to this town over the summer. When I first got here, I could peacock (and at first I did peacock pretty heavy lol) all I wanted to cuz I was foreign at that point. But as time goes on, and now I am not so foreign because I've lived here for "x" amount of months, things begin to change. If you dress up - like I do - it might get a little bit awkward, because I dont have all that mystic to me anymore, as when I was new. Now you are just standing out

It sounds tacky, but if you're part of a subculture or present yourself so, you can dress however you feel. Otherwise, I would sporadically dress up, just for the hell of it, but mostly dress close to everyone else. I don't like dressing the exact same, but rather slightly better (diesel shoes over Nike, a nice jacket, designer jeans, etc.)

Do whatever the fuck you want AND get pussy. Problem solved. I have totally changed the way I dress two or three times in the past few years, and it doesn't make any difference. Someone might say, "nice shirt," but then they forget about it. Your clothing will bring you 10 seconds of attention. After that it doesn't matter.

it's not necessary what you're wearing; but what you're portraying wearing it.

if you come to school in bumming ass clothing; you show no social intelligence. if you come over dressed; you come off try hard.

i don't really match, i like khakis and cords. my shoes have holes; but all of this portrays skating.

it's more like dressing to match your personality then to dress to match everyone else.

actualy, i did a little research. Dressing out of sych with the clique you are chilling with is a DHV, as long as you seem confident.

As long as you have style, you're good.

Don't wear adult large (or even medium in some cases) that are plainly grey with a simple logo on it
Don't wear jeans that go up to your ankles.
Don't wear jeans that don't look good.
Don't wear tennis shoes when you're not running.
etc.

As long as you have A style, you're good.

I dress way different than anybody in my school, and am more successful with women than all of my friends and acquaintances I know besides the generic 'popular guys'. It shows that you have style and are different. As long as you impress the girl/group with your personality it doesn't matter what you wear. People associate different clothes with a different type of personality, and when you show them that you're just as (if not more) down to earth and fun than everybody else in spite of your style, it really makes an impression.

Screw fitting in. Doing what you want is what's really alpha.
