I hate story toppers. I fucking hate story toppers more than anything. Even when I'm not trying to DHV they still come in and... well... story top. Andrew and I have a friend in New York that is the worst story topper I have every met and well....I could go on and on but I'm not gonna...

Anyway the point of this post was to tell you guys how to get them to stop.

You: (DHV story)
Topper: Oh yea i remember this time....

Let them finish their story, or else you will look like a complete jackass.

(When they finish their story)

You: Well aren't you the story topper. Do you do this to everyone? It must get you a BUNCH of friends xD. (say this as friendly as possible, once again try not to look like a jackass, but solidify your AMONG status).

Usually they wont do it again, but if they are really daring, they may try to top you again.

Topper: (Attempt to top you again)
You: Hey __________, (come up w/ some weird nickname like 'top-top'; they're gonna find it really annoying) you really love topping don't you? (laugh at the end of this so you dont seem like a jackass but they are gonna realize that your the AMOG). I may have to start charging you!

Plus they are being a dick and storytopping

Actually i think that would work well. If you pulled your audience into the moment... then interrupt the "topper", i bet their attention will ZOOM... be right on you.

Hey im not contradicting your technique tho man. im just saying if you pulled them into the moment, no need for letting the topper get any attention. just nip it in the ass to begin with. Just be fucking polite. And speak loud enough. If the audience doesn't want to let you speak (they listen to the topper, that is) than you're lost anyways.
Being polite shows maturity, only say it in a "I-don't-believe-that-you've-interrupted-me-I-am-insulted" tone of voice.

Are you sure these story toppers aren't merely trying to relate to you? It's common whenever someone brings up a type of story everyone else shares theirs'.
