OPEN LOOPS--
Open Loops are a very common tool used by PUA's and naturals alike, most people don't even notice that they are using him half of the time, but when used effectively, they are a very powerful tool.
The idea of an open loop is saying an open ended statement, and not finishing your thought. This will create anticipation and a little insecurity. The target will want you to finish your thought no matter what happens. The beauty of an open loops is that you can be the most boring person in the world, yet depending on how you convey your idea (i.e. using an open loop) you can make yourself sound incredibly interesting. Here is an example of an open loop that I pulled off of the internet:
PUA: ¡°You know, this place reminds me of when I was in a german sex show with my girlfriend.¡±
HB: ¡°You were in a german sex show? What happened?¡±
PUA: ¡°Well I was in Germany because I love McDonalds ice cream, and I made it a personal goal to try McDonalds ice cream in every country in the world. Don¡¯t you just love ice cream?¡±
This is a really good example for a type of open loop. Here the PUA is hooking the HB in with some sex show about him and his girlfriend, but then when she asks about it he talks about something ridiculous and off topic. The whole time the HB will be wondering "But what about the sex show!!!" Through this she will get increasingly frustrated, but that's a good thing. When the HB starts to get frustrated, attraction will grow. NEVER, throughout the whole process, NEVER tell her about, well in this case, the sex show. She will always wonder about it, and no matter how much she asks you, never tell her about it.
Another way to run an Open Loop is to leave your target with an Open loop. This would sound something like....
PUA: Wow that reminds me of LA...
HB: when where you in LA?
PUA: Well I used to live there, until my -- oh sorry I have to go
HB: But what about LA?
PUA: If you're good I'll tell you next time xD
Now it doesn't have to be as abrupt of an exit as that (I made this up in like 2 seconds), but in this open loop you are leaving her with the same anticipation and insecurity as the last open loop, but you are also walking away from the target. This is very powerful because you leave her with an idea of you in her head that she has to complete for herself. She will be thinking of you (in this case in LA) until the next time you two see each other.
TENSION LOOPS --
So Tension Loops are a HUUUUUUUUUUUGE topic and quite frankly, there just isn't enough time or room or lack of ADD moments to explain them in detail, so I'm just going to give you a basic idea of what they are, and you can keep reading to learn them in detail by yourself.
What are they?
A tension loop is a type of open loop that creates unresolved tension inside a woman, builds it to a climax (no not that kind), then releases it only to re-spark it later.
Soap Opera writers use them all the time. They create tension through many many many episodes, then it comes to a climax, but then it is resolved later, and of course, further along it is sparked again.
Many people would ask why this works. It's a hard concept to grasp, but it sure does work. Look at the Soap Opera's. They have terrible acting and all they are is drama, yet people continuously watch them. To tell you the truth I hate Soap Opera's, and I'm sure most of you do too, but contrary to popular belief, people do watch them. Anyway...
Steps to Tension Loops:
So what many people have noticed in writers, directors, and even PUA's tension loops is that they all follow a similar structure.
1) They do or say something to create the tension loop
2) They keep going with what they said or did, making the ¡°tension loop¡± larger
3) They do something to close the tension loop; bring some release or resolution to it
4) They open it back up, but just a little bit.
A big part of this concept is the rising and falling of the tension. It's like the idea of a diet, after being on one for a long time, it feels really good to have that McDonald's; the building of the tension is the diet, and the release of the tension is the Big Mac, a big thing to remember is that you have to go back on that diet after your cheeseburger though. The diet in the first place would be a waste if you abandon it with that cheese burger wouldn't it?
There are many types of tension loops and i really don't have the patience to research them all, but push pull is the biggest and most commonly talked about of them all. This is perfect because Andrews article on push pull is right below.
