Compliments are a tool overlooked by aspiring PUA's because they get written off as beta and wimpy. While this can be very true, high schoolers, especially underclassmen, can use them quite effectively. AFTER YOU'VE ALREADY BUILT ATTRACTION, a well placed, sincere compliment can build massive rapport and comfort. It makes the target feel good about herself. Girls DON'T get them a lot from guys.

PICKING THE RIGHT COMPLIMENT
... is quite easy. All you need are 2 criteria:

1. Does it look like she tried on what you're complimenting?
This only applies for hair/clothes. I would avoid complimenting makeup, only because some girls are sensitive about it.

2. Do you find beauty in the object of your compliment?
No matter what, the nonverbals will come out 8185813456 times better if you actually like whatever aspect of your target you choose to inform her of.

WHEN TO COMPLIMENT
DO: compliment after the initial attraction phase.
DON't: compliment during the initial attraction phase. You get written off as a pussy.

DO: compliment sparingly. You want her to know you've meant it.
DON'T: return a compliment with another compliment. It's negatively rapport seeking. There are only 2 responses I use to compliments: Thank you, OR Thanks, I like them too. (C&F) Use the latter one with friends, because otherwise people will think you're an asshole.

DO: compliment during silence. If you've tried plowing a girl who is normally responsive, but today gives one word answers, and nothing you can think of is working, feel free to lock eyes, then after a few seconds, say "Jen, you really have beautiful eyes."


HOW TO COMPLIMENT:
Short and sweet.

"You know, Jess, I really like your hair today."

"Jane, you have the cutest laugh."

TIPS:
Girls focus on their eyes, skin, lips, hair, shoes, and jewelry the most. Innate characteristics like laugh and voice are good choices as well. I would save skin and lips for girls you want to have a more sexual dialog with, personal preference.

NEWBIE CHALLENGE:
Tell a girl that you talk with a couple of times a week that she has pretty eyes. If you haven't number closed her, do it in the same exchange. If you get shot down and weren't doing anything stupid, I will coach you up until you get her number or 5 other numbers.

When to compliment: Only when you mean it and you know it will make people feel good about themselves.

I partly agree with aaron here, and fully agree with comedic and author.
If it's one of those things you just know for sure girls are putting alot of effort into, compliment it - you gotta mean it though, faking it kills it.

There's just one thing, though:
Compliments aren't supposed to make you sound charming, or to flatter the girl (of course they're all about flattering the girl... in their eyes. you gotta change it so it sounds natural for you to say it - but say it rarely!); they're supposed to express your meaning. It shows lots of confidence to compliment a girl while looking her in the eyes (the ones about 1ft above the other eyes), which is good for genuity and well, complimenting.
Use everything wisely. Compliments can screw it up as much as negs, and I think if you throw too many compliments, it's harder to get out of it than if you neg her a little too much. My opinion.

Yes, please don't act cocky when you get a compliment. Some girls like it but most girls hate it. Why would you be a jerk to girl when she gives you a compliment (which girls don't do often)? Just say thanks and if you're feeling the cocky and an "I know". No need to be a jerk.

Okay honestly, I don't think you should focus on all this stuff when talking with chicks.
I think it's good to be HONEST with the girl and point out all of her goods + bads with balance.
This way you compliment her, but you also take them back in a sense by teasing her too.
The most natural way to push-pull with words.

I know that I often forgot the pull in my early days. There's no need for anyone else to do it.

Yeah, that's true, but seriously there's a limit. Some girls hate hate hate being complimented on their looks because their so self conscious and what not. But then again, that's probably a girl you want to run away from. Anyways, if a girl dresses up and does her hair for a reason, she did it so you would notice. You can compliment that, but otherwise I usually don't compliment a girl's physical characteristics.

There is. Compliments should be used sparingly, and you want to deliver them mildly. If you do that, no hot chick will become self conscious if the compliment is targeted properly.

Back handed compliments are good if your going cocky funny sometime but I try to avoid compliments. I knew this chick with a nice pair of Ds and some times I'd be like 'Hi' and when she responded I be like oh I was talking to the two midgets on your chest and she would laugh. god damn why was a still an AFC back then she was perfect curvy Latina body with blond hair and blue eyes ,bi and totally into 3 ways and looking back she wanted me to make a move. There are two times I would talk with a girl about her tits or ass:

1. While I'm fucking her

2. When she says something about them first.

Especially in high school, you NEED rapport and comfort before you can fuck people who go to your school.
