Basically, a push without a pull is the equivalent to the major seventh without the resolution to the root. It just doesn't feel right!
OR It's the Major fourth, to the Minor fourth, with no resolution
And yes, there are artists who can get away with not resolving, but you have to be pretty fucking good. One of my music teachers was telling me about a show he went to where the ENTIRE CONCERT didn't resolve. So, in unison, the whole audience hummed the root note. SOLIDARITY!
But I digress,
Unless your really fucking good, RESOLVE!!
