Hello, My name is Andrew Kellner, and I have Rheumatoid Arthritis.
That shit sucks. My elbows don't straighten, my knees and ankles are almost always hurting me, and I have to have special orthotics made for my feet. I couldnt play organized sports even if I WANTED to! The medication I'm on makes it so if I ever drink alcohol then my liver is FUCKED.
Sounds pretty shitty huh? ESPECIALLY in high school.
Well it is.
I dont let it define who I am.
My friends see me as the happiest, sunniest, person they have ever met. They see a person who reeks confidence even though he has a lot going against him. They may not see an athlete, but they see someone who goes to the gym every day anyway. I've lost my virginity before most of my friends, even without alcohol at parties or being a big athlete.
I've learned thought talking to my friends and other people my age that EVERYONE has their own shit that they are going through.
Don't preach about your shit, dont tell people all the time about it, as it may make people uncomfortable. But dont bottle it up. Dont keep it a secret. Make it a part of you, a part that you control.
Sometimes its parents divorce, sometimes you may have a friend that attempted suicide, or, like me, you have an old person disease.
Always take into consideration what other people might be going through. You arent the only one with problems. And if your one of the lucky few without problems, then you are BLESSED, and dont take anything you have for granted.
And to those who do have their own shit, be above it. You are not defined by what you are going through, rather you are defined by how you deal with it. You are stronger than it is. You and I are going to go through life a better person, a stronger person because we have had tough problems and have risen above them
From your peer, your mentor, your guide, your follower, and above all your brother,
-Andrew Kellner
