great philosophy, you make it sound easy though. we're always going to care what people think, it's an instinct inherited from our ancestors. even alphas had to worry. just because you're an alpha gorilla doesn't mean another alpha couldn't come into your life and take over what you have. value is there because people are pack mammals, we value ourselves to a group so we can feel like we'd be harder to replace then someone else. 500,000 years ago when we lived in packs, being replaced or kicked out meant death. why do you think being shunned hurts so much? i wish i could live the way you say, but my instincts, ancestry and need to be a alpha combat that. Its true, we may always care what other people think about us. The trick is not to ACT on it. Just because you feel one way doesn't mean that that has to be present in your actions. There's this catty group of kids in my grade who are raggin on their friend for chillin with me, purely because they don't know me at all, and those who know me even a little know how fucking awesome I am. I LOOOOOVE hearing what they have to say about me. In fact, I care about it. It doesn't mean that I act on it, and it DEFINATELY doesnt mean I change for them or anything. I'm purely fascinated by the human social complex, and how opinions like that are formulated. Its what I'm fascinated by. Human's are always going to wonder what their peers think about them, you're right. I think I may have oversimplified it a little bit. The trick is to understand it, but not to act on it. It's always better not to be ignorant. And about your instincts and ancestry, its ingrained, of course, but there are more factors in your life today than in past years that help you be able to move past opinions and judgements. A gorilla very well couldn't be like "yo fuck what you bitches think imma do what I do and if you dont like it you can kiss my silver back," because as you said, thats the end of him, but what we humans can do is be like "Hey you dont like how I act or behave, then dont hang out with me. its your loss." And in today's society, those people who DO like the way you behave or dress or act have the option to hang with you. -Andrew<3

"I'm tired of people changing what they act like around other people to try to appease them. I'm tired of people deciding what they want to do in order to try to gain the affection and respect of others. I'm tired of people trying to figure out who they want to hang out with because it will look better. Because deny it all you want, thats what were doing. We are changing who we are (even if it might be an outer shell or two) for other people. "
This is probably the most true thing I've ever seen on the internet. Because, in reality, the whole natural game thing is to be 'yourself' - but not the one society has forced you to become through social norms - the inner self. INNER SELF - The alpha male (it's a fucking instinct, can it be MORE natural?!) - you just need to cut the fucking fake shit off and let your inner self shine through - and it's never who you think it is. If you think you got confidence, you don't. If your confidence suddenly hits you in the face when standing in front of the mirror, you got confidence. The point is to stop thinking about social norms and "what would brad pitt/ronaldo/zac efron/whatever hot & famous guy do?". It has to be cut off. But all of that starts with... value. Because you're giving high value people even more value by thinking what they would think. Which means that you should know (not think, aight?) you're the man = giving yourself the most value = giving your own opinions most value - and that's where we get back to the whole confidence/self esteem thing again. Sigh. It's a circle.
But inside we're all alphas, because well, here it is again, it's an instinct. It's an instinct to be the leader, but society has fucked with our minds and made some of us into pussies, some of into betas, and some of us weren't molded by certain social norms, and that, my brothers, is the alpha male.

Knowledge is Power.
Think about how that applys to this situation and everything will become clear.

My thoughts:
Basically, ignore people, but care what they think. You want to know how your coming off. Why do people ask for people to proofread papers? So they don't mess up. Think of other people's thoughts of you your proofreading. You wanna know if your coming too hard on one aspect or another. Once you can control that, the real you will come out.

Our notion of the Alpha Male today is that we shouldn't care what other people think and that we should do whatever we want to do. However, if you examine the facts surrounding human "pack leaders" and you contemplate for a moment the pack-leader mentality from an evolutionary standpoint, then it will become clear that paying attention to what other people think is important. It is just as neccessary to our pack leader ancestors as being the toughest fighter was.
Lets poder a hypothetical situation which has happened thousands of times over the course of history. You have your Alpha male, the leader of the group. Then you have the betas, the followers who look to their leader for guidance and strength. So one day a beta decides, "Hell, im just as good of a leader as this alpha dude over here" and this beta goes around convincing the other beta's of his ideas. Then one day the beta's usurp the shit out of the alpha and a new leader takes command.
Now this situation could have been avoided, if the alpha was able to determine the mood of his subjects, what they were thinking. Having complete disregard to what others think is not the way to go, and sometimes Point Of View shifts can be very helpful.
Is the value system not just another evolutionary tool acquired by humans to make reproduction more likely? To make it easier to adapt to the group setting neccessary for humans to survive?
There are times when you should put thoughts of other people out of your heads, because it is just taking up brain energy.
Sometimes taking the time to imagine how what you say will affect others can be very beneficial. Also, imagining what their feelings are towards you.
