ok first off, ill try and help you with a hair style but you need to show you face...no reason to block it. And understand that different hair styles work for different facial constructions, thats one. Two, dont go to a barber go to a good salon. Barbers are chop shops.
And for products, go buy some at a good salon, those main stream ones are shit. Esp. axe, its like 10 or 16 bucks? And its shit. Go to a good salon, buy those products (the products that salons carry are great, and you wont get them in stores).

honestly man, if your hair is straight i think you'd look sick with like longer hair down to your chin. Not sure what to say yet, as im not yet a hair stylist BUT! Grow your hair out really long, and go to a GOOD salon.
But you wouldnt look good with a faux hawk

i actually just got done with having a fauxhawk and now my hair just got long enough to do some other stuff.
but as for my hair: I washed my hair, had it come down my forehead rather than sticking straight up, and dried it like that.
after a few hours, I had my pop cut my hair. The sides are fairly short, and the entire bottom part of my head was buzzed and gradually got longer as it progressed upwards.
my hair length was the same from the front/forehead part to the "baldspot" or the upper back of the head.
remember that my hair was facing DOWN. so imagine as if you wanted a downwards hair style, then you needed to make sure that the hair balance was right with your sides. the sides are already done, so you just need to fix the rest accordingly.
make sense?? lol
hope this helps! <33

My advice: Try it out, and see what the ladies think. If it's a no, then don't do it. Most hairdressers know what a fohawk is, and they should know what to do. I get my hair products straight from them, cause I tend to use what they use on me.
Best of luck.
