The History Channel ran a program on body language last night. They studied the body language/vocal tone of police suspects, political candidates (Obama, Hillary, McCain), former and current presidents, and celebrities.
It was very insightful. For instance you might not know that Obama slows his speech and drops his voice. No big deal right? Everyone and their wing knows this is a necessity. Well he also uses a cadence in his speech, it's all timed so that it has an almost NLP quality to it.
Or Bill Clinton. He was a master at using gestures. He talked with his hands a lot. His wife? She points at people in the crowed, giving the appearance she's very down to earth. Sounds like social proof to me.
And old Dubya. Whenever he makes a mistake he acts like a kid. He goes, "Oops, yea I just tried to open the wrong door." And when he gives a mistake in his speaches he just keeps on going. Very powerful.
Really it opened my eyes to how powerful body language is. If you can find it you should watch the special. It was titled "Secrets of Body Language" and was two hours long.

Obama could be hypnotizing us with his gestures. xD Very good program though. Any re-runs soon?

People (generally older people) keep saying that Obama reminds them of Kennedy in his style of speech and rhetoric. This is great for him considering that Kennedy was one of the best public speakers of all time

Yep ;D
They also had a segment on the Kennedy vs. Nixon debate. People who actually visually saw the debate (redundant I know) said that Kennedy won it by a landside. People who only heard the audio of it said that Nixon had it.
THC special said that this marked the first time that body language was acknowledged as a key factor in elections.

just fyi the fact that nixon had no idea what was goin on is NOT in his defence xD.
Yeah we learned about that debate in media studies. Kennedy was also the first president to hold meetings and press confrences on TV because he greatly appealed to the public.
Also, Ive heard that if Franklin D Roosevelt was on TV more often the public wouldnt have supported him as much because he was in a wheelchair. just a fun fact
