Hey guys, it's Clarity with a post topic that I actually feel like I can excel on. Style is important to everyone; it's also a good conversation starter when you want to open, trust me. LOL. It's 2am here, and I don't want to sleep yet, so let's get started!
As a precursor, Let me just say that I haven't been always concious about fashion. All during middle school we all go though that "phase" where we have to wear what the rage is- Abercrombie, The North Face, etc. and we're sucked into it. Yeah, unfortunately for me I started that around the end of eighth grade and by the time I got to highschool, I realized no one really cared anymore. Fashion is kind of tricky, as it is constantly changing. What I suggest is to deveop your own sense of fashion that isn't your generic highschool guy (i.e. Polo shirt in 35134 different colors, khaki shorts, black Nike socks, and Sperrys). As of me, I kind of developed this more classy punkish style, avoiding the tennis shoes and overdrawn polos and what not. Here is a breakdown of what I usually wear, from inside out.
Note: Although I will be dropping some names on clothing brands, please note that I am Asian, thus I also don't like spending too much on my clothes. You can find a lot of good deals on days such as Black Friday in the US and good buys in outlet malls. Honestly I think I spend more time in outlets than actual malls..
Underwear
When I mean underwear, I mean the core clothes that are uniform of all outfits that I wear. Usually a pair of fitted boxers such as Calvin Klein or any other boxer like that with a large band looks good. You can get these really cheap at Macys, as their savings are ridiculous. For the upper layer, I usually wear a black or grey A-shirt (essentially a tanktop, but in my opinion better looking) as they just look damn sexy if you have to take off your shirt for any reason and you have atleast a decently toned body.
Pants
For pants, I usually start out with the basic slim dark wash jeans. I find that when you sag, it really is a sign of no fashion sense as it is also just a "trend" (or if you don't have a belt, which you should have one at all times). I think Shogun touched up on this and I also agree with him, find his post here highschoolpuas.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=fashion&action=display&thread=3459. Other than dark wash I have a pair of light wash grey jeans and a pair of grey jeans. These types of colors usually compliment the clothes that I wear (which usually consist of black, white, and purple).
Shirts
My wardrobe of shirts consist of a lot of black, a lot of white, purple, and blue. Although your wardrobe doesn't have to be so monochromed as mine, these colors are generally considered safer/ "classier". I wear a lot of t-shirts, although most of them have prints such as "LA BELLE DONNA CERTO L'AMO" and other subtle graphics. I try to keep the graphics not too loud, as one has to remember that simplicity is sometimes much better than a whole bunch of arrows and crosses everywhere.
Outerwear
Ahh, outerwear. One of my more likable pieces of clothing. My outerwear varies A LOT. I own a whole bunch of vests that look more formal, as it just adds this air of better fashion to whatever I wear. I also own a decent amount of jackets. Personally, I LOVE asymmetric jackets and try to find them when I can. I own an asymetric leather jacket, contrary to Grape's recommendation. Ah hah, this is a shoutout to you man.
Generally I avoid the type of jackets found in places such as Hollister or Abercrombie as they just don't look appealing to me.
A word about cardigans, in my opinion they're okay. If you can pull it off, that's great. The one thing about cardigans is that you have to be careful not to pair it with more "feminine" clothes as cardigans can really be mis-judged.
Shoes
SHOES can make or break an "outfit". As Shogun also stated, the one thing that girls never fail to recognize is shoes. I remember Mystery talking about if you went up to a couple and asked the guy what shoes the girl was wearing without looking down, he would have no idea while the girl would know what color, style, and sometimes even shoe size of the guys. Anyways, I used to own a pair of checkered Vans sneakers and those worked alright with what I wore. What I wear now is more of a hightop phase; I own a pair of Nike Dunks, Airforce 1's, and a pair of Adidas. Note that certain pairs of Nike hightops are formal enough to be pulled off with more formal clothing such as dress shirts with dress pants, vests, etc. and add a nice touch of style.
Socks
Black. Nothing else.
Accessories
They're like the screws and bolts of what you wear; they just put everything together. I wear a necklace with a crown and infinity symbol on it, and I never fail to get compliments about it. I also wear a nice-ish watch on my right and a silly band on my left. Before you say anything like "That's gay and stupid", the silly band is a kama sutra silly band; I'll let your imagination run on that one. Also, my girlfriend has a matching one. Heh.
Well, that pretty much sums what I usually wear on a near daily basis. Now note, I do wear sweats a lot too, as some days I just don't care at all. As I stressed before, this is the fashion that I have found to suit me, and it may not necessarily work for you. Think of it as a springboard for ideas. If you didn't get anything at all from this post, the one tip that you should keep heed to is that in fashion, always add a little bit of your own style into it. Add something like a patch to a jacket, or maybe wear it differently. It's the subtle things that are noticed more subconsciously.
On that note, I hope you guys find this article(-ish) helpful!
Cheers
