Girl of my dreams made me look stupid

we were at a party, so she was a little drunk and it was me, her, and my friends. She was laughing about how my friend she was talking to creeps her out because he stares at her.

I jumped in and said "your pretty so you get a lot of attention"

she looks at me with a face and says "thanks?"


wtf my friends started laughing and now feel like an idiot..

any advice about how i should take this?

actually i wouldnt try to show her the reasoning. Girls dont want the reasoning. I personally would have looked at her funny and said something like

its probably because of that thing on your... oh wait that is your face. add smiley face

but im a massive douche monster whose found a technique that works for me.
