DJ'ing is an expensive hobby depending.
You will have to get abelton live which cost $100 it's a program you run on your computer to mix, sample and make music. If you want to go the whole nine yards however you can buy an mpc and turn tables both are very expensive (mpc $300-1000 and turn tables $1000-3000)
I am a hip-hop artist, my friends and I get together and make a beat and then freesytle over it (or we use written stuff depending)
One of my friend has an mpc that he got for $800 and a turn table which he got for $2500 he is very rich however.
For me I just use Abelton live and you can do alot with just that. It's abit complicated to figure out in the begining but once you have the feel for it, it will be easy to use.

There are tutorials all over online to learn how to get started and what to get.
As for equipment, there's unlimited routes that you can go. You can go hardware and spend alot yet have more quality and professional rep, albeit the most expensive. I can find a set with a mixer for $600 on craigslist easy. You'll also need amps, speakers, and records.
Or you could go the software route. Ableton live is the most popular program for djing, but it's very hard for a beginner to use. People also use reason, fl studio, and Cubase just to name a few. Most beginners use midi turntables that come with their own software, such as serato itch, virtual dj, or traktor. Depending on what you want to do, the prices for these range from $80-$500, but the high end usually isn't necessary. You'll also need a computer that can handle it, especially if you want to scratch or use also of effects and filters. But the great thing about software is that you don't need a turntable application. You can use midi controllers such as the apc40, which is what I use. These manipulate tracks like no other.
But your set really depends on what type of music you want to mix. Electronic is definitely a software/midi controller option, but hip hop is more of a turntable application. Hardware is expensive at first, but software controllers and computers add up easy.
Ive been producing hip hop for 4 years and started mixing last year. Its pretty fun, but requires time, money, and dedication to learn and get what you want. And mpcs usually aren't necessary at all for djing, just for producing, and I don't use em for that either lol.

If your buying a controller with Traktor, PLEASE DON'T USE THE SYNC BUTTON!!! Practice without it and without looking at the waveforms on your laptop. Afterwards learn to use CDJs.
DJing takes a lot of practice and should be taken seriously. We don't have time for Paris Hiltons. If you don't love music then don't DJ because your just wasting your time. Don't DJ because it's cool or you want to get girls. You still have to have game to get girls when your a DJ unless you're really popular which will take years.
