Hey,
my name is Janni and Ive been reading the PUA forums since summer 2008. As of mid 2010, Ive been going out consistently. My motivations for doing this changed. Where in the beginning I just wanted to get more girls, Im now going out to push myself to new levels. The good feeling that comes from your daily dose of pickup (both day and night) is a feeling I will never want to miss again.
There is not “one thing” to being a good PUA, but what helps to feel good in general is to know you can have a friendly conversation with people all the time. Often times, I would just not know what to say, or not have an idea how to “make this fun”. But once I got this down, I now simply feel at ease most of the time. I know that whatever is thrown at me verbally, I will be okay. A realization I had is that it’s never about the content, but the goal is to talk just for the sake of talking.
But how can I specifically train my humour, or learn to just express myself without freaking people out? Because just as with approaching chicks, you will make a fool out of yourself by stepping out of your comfort zone.
Going out and being with people is the #1 way to do this. However, Ive been looking to specifically improve my conversation skills online by talking with random people or training partners. After checking out Chatroulette and Omegle, I found that its practically impossible to have a solid conversation with people on the existing websites.
Does this even make sense to focus on your conversation skills? You don’t have to, but I like the idea that one day I can have the verbal dexterity of a Russell Brand. This guy is so fun to listen to. Hes been a standup speaker and comedian + (radio) moderator for 10+ years, which is according to him where he got his wits from.
Since November 2010 Ive been working on an online platform that connects random people through Skype. Its called Conversationland. You can google it. The idea is to have solid 5 minute interactions with people who actually want to improve their verbal abilities. Further, it was important to create privacy, such that people can step over boundaries without facing consequences. Therefore, signing up costs 15$. The basic technology goes like this: 2 persons are registered on Conversationland. Both want to make a Skype call with a random person, so on the “Practice” section of the website, they click for “Search for partner”, and immediately the system will match them up, spitting out a so called Skype button, which is provided by Skype itself. All you have to do now is click on the button, and Skype will open automatically and initiate the call with the other person. You do not even need Skype to be open, and you do not need to have this other person in your contact list. The call will initiate automatically.
The calls take place in 1 of 6 categories: They range from Vibing, through Storytelling, Dominance to Listening. The categories and their rules/benefits are explained on the website.
The website works with 2 people, or 1000 people, because it only requires 2 persons to initiate a call. If after 10 minutes no Skype partner has been found in the online database, you have to click the “Search for partner” button again. Right now we have ~20 active members, so it might take some time till you find a conversation partner during the day. Most members are from Europe, and you will find most calls take place after 18.00 CET or 12.00 EDT.
Importantly, after each call, you can send your call partner a feedback in textform, which he will receive in his inbox. If you receive similar feedback from different people, they are probably on to something that could be useful to you.
Now, use this site Conversationland for 10 or 15 minutes per day and over time you will significant improvements. I remember myself that the first times I did this, I had troubles just simply expressing myself. I also realized then that these Skype calls are the $h*t, because I can go verbally crazy without facing any repercussions. Its an awesome tool to learn how to express yourself and step over boundaries to develop new verbal abilities. Its also cool to chat with the people there, because most are into self-development as well and will forgive you for “fukkin up”.
Finally, Conversationland is still in development, so excuse the few content on the Blog. However, the website is fully 100% functional and works like a clockwork. From registration to starting a call takes no more than 4 minutes. Also, you will need to remember your Skypename and password, because momentarily you do not receive an Email with the user details. You only receive an Email from PayPal telling you what you have just paid for (1-Month Membership at Conversationland including Practice and Forum access).
I hope this will come to be a useful tool on your journey.
Thanks for your attention and good luck,
Janni
