About a year ago my acne started getting pretty noticeable. I would get a good amount of pimples and blackheads but that wasn't the worst. The red spots and scars left behind looked horrribleee.
I tried everything. Wasted a ton of time and money, and finally I have pretty much cured it minus occasional pimples that I am able to deal with.
Here's the steps I took that had the biggest effect...
-Diet and exercise. I'm going to guess that as teens most of you guys get plenty of exercise already, but eating healthy is VERY important. How much you eat is not so much the problem, but as for soda, sugar, candy, milkshakes, slushies, energy drinks, etc., cut them out COMPLETELY. Straight up. Basically don't be a bitch. You will feel much better and more energetic. As for fruit, vegetables, and meat, have at them. There are many ways to enjoy them.
-Get enough sleep. Shoot for 9 hours on school nights, as much as possible otherwise.
-Change your pillow case often, every 2-3 nights.
-Minocycline. My general practicioner prescribed me this, I think it helped. No bad side effects. Not a requirement.
-Green tea/vitamin e/zinc. Very effective. I take them in pill form.
And most important of all, the "Oil Cleansing Method." Google it. The thought of smothering oil directly on your face sounds bad but it works wonders. If you know any thing about chemistry, you know oil soaks up oil.
Basically, ignore your face in the morning (unless you have a sore spot/red spot, where you know a pimple is coming in. I will get to this later.).
At night before bed, begin by washing your hands thoroughly, I use the same facial bar as I use later to remove the oil. Then begin rinsing your face with warm water. If you need to shave, do so now. Next, get your preferred blend of oils mixed in the palm of one hand. For a list of suggested oils, search up the OCM on Acne.org. I prefer mostly castor oil with a few drops of tea tree oil. Apply a light coat to all of your face.
Next get a towel, not a bath towel, and fold it up in a nice square that will cover your face. You can use 2-3 wash cloths instead. Soak in hot water and then hold to your face until it has cooled to room temperature. This is to steam your face. Remove it and rub your hands lightly in circles all over your face to rub the oil in. Then resoak the towels and repeat. Do this 3 times total.
Next you want to use a very gentle facial soap to remove the oil. No BP or Salicic acid shit. I use neutrogena's gentle cleansing bar and cool not cold water to rinse off the oil. Every three days when you do this you will want to exfoliate, so rub the bar hard in your hand to get a good bit of soap sitting in your hand and mix in some baking soda for a nice creamy face rub to wash the oil off with.
As for individual pimples/red marks, avoid popping at all costs. If you treat them as soon as they're coming in you won't need to anyway if the following treatment is applied after washing and maybe after showering in the morning too. All you need is a nickle sized puddle of water in your palm and a couple drops of tea tree oil mixed in. Dip your finger in and gently apply with circles to the pimple/red spot.
Blackheads can be tricky. I just rap toilet paper around my fingers and pop them gently after washing via OCM. Squeeze the white ooze out but NEVER cause it to bleed. Only do this if it's ready, apply the water and tea tree oil after. This same popping method can be used for pimples IF NECESSARY. It can be helpful to prick with a needle first however.
Never use bp or salicic acid, it will only inflame your skin more and create lasting red marks.
And that's about it. The fact that your washing with oil should moisturize your skin enough. In the morning/in the shower leave your skin alone, nothing needs to be done. Also try to touch/mess with/pick at your skin as little as possible throughout the day.
Thanks for readinggg.
