Kinda necroposting I know, but guys I'm new to the forums and I just wanted to tell you my experience with polyphasic sleeping.
I've been sleeping polyphasically for half a year and YES IT'S UBERMAN and no I don't have any problems I'm perfectly fine.
I tried it with a friend of mine at first, but at day 11 or so he went out with some of our stoner friends... and let's just say he found out Marijuana is not good for staying awake. I have a very very strong willpower so I didn't give up, I was almost at 2 weeks in why stop now?!
End of day 12 was my first dream while sleeping polyphasically, and it was a Lucid Dream, my first one and I absolutely loved the experience (had half a dozen more since then). The next days got better and better.
At 2 weeks in I was feeling amazing, seriously you get even more energy than when sleeping mono. I was remembering almost every dream I had, and still am (and I dream on every single nap).
I'VE HAD ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEMS WITH IT. I even talked about it with my doctors and they weren't against it, I was perfectly fine and they were kinda fascinated with the whole idea. I learn Japanese and my memory and cognitive capacity are perfectly fine.
Your productivity goes through the roof, not only because you have 6 hours more of awake time (AND "conscious" time at lucid dreams which seems like hours long when in fact only 20 minutes go by, PRICELESS EXPERIENCE), but also because now you have deadlines for everything in 3:40h. Your brain seems to gain super powers and mysteriously manage to do everything you could never do.
BUT!!!!! There are downsides of course:
You have to take the naps... no matter the situation, or you'll kinda fuck it up. (Though not as harsh as many say, I often miss a nap each couple of days. No big deal, but you'll get sleepy. 2 naps missed are completely different, roughly the equivalent as missing a night sleep while mono.)
Being alone at night is lonely... I'm not kidding, it gets really lonely sometimes, my luck is that I have friends in other countries to whom I talk to online at night (I live in Portugal), and a gay friend who's in Paris that for some reason can manage to stay up all night long.
You'll get a bit anti-social if you're not careful, for different reasons:
1. You get used to being alone
2. You can't go out all afternoon or all night with your friends everyday (unless you take the naps anyway).
3. BATHS... this one is kinda funny, but you know when you wake up and you feel your body and mouth are dirty from sleeping all night?... Well, with Uberman sleeping this never happens... so you don't get that urge to go take a bath and I'm not kidding... You may "forget" to take baths for like 4 days straight for example. Rare, but happened already
.
EDIT: Guys if you're gonna try this... do it with someone. The first weeks are "you have to see for yourself..." hard, and you will probably fail, but having a friend doing it with you, makes it an AWESOME, UNIQUE, FUN, and UNFORGETTABLE experience!
. If you don't have anyone I'd be happy to talk through skype or something and help you guys who're curious.
PS: A girl wants to try it and told me to sleep over during that time.................................. :)Yup. Alone, at night, at her house, having to keep ourselves awake, sharing an unforgettable and unique experience, and feeling really close and free of inhibitions due to sleep deprivation.
Yeah.
Well, I'll be adding any interesting info I can remember. Meanwhile, I'd be happy to answer all your questions about this topic. So ask and critic away!
