So basically I'm pretty cut right now but I want to work on muscle mass and a six pack. I know there both pretty good but does anyone recommend one over the other?

I've tried both, and here is what I know INSANITY is a much more cardio-based workout. By doing cardio, you will be losing both fat AND muscle mass so you'd need to supplement this with weight lifting (or P90X) to look chiseled. P90X really focuses on weightlifting (except for Plyometrics and Kenpo [like aerobic kick boxing]). While the only thing you'll need for INSANITY is shoes and possibly a mat, for P90X you'll need much more, such as 1) Pull up bar 2) Dumbells (I believe it's ~$1.00 for every pound) If you're playing a sport such as soccer or track then I'd recommend INSANITY. But if you're more interested in looking like this guy (Tony Horton) then do P90X Also, you can do a hybrid of the two (try searching "P90x Insanity Hybrid schedule). Of course this can get really expensive, but I torrent everything and suggest you do too. Best of luck =D Ask if you need anything else

Auroturtle did you mean to torrent the p90x insanity hybrid? What kind of file is it.
I just downloaded insanity so I think I'm gonna do that every day with a protein shake in the morning and afternoon cuz I have a ton of whey.
I also have a pull up bar and some 10lb dumbells so I'm interested in this p90 insanity hybrid.

DUDE I don't want to bust your bubble but you will get NO REAL mass on any of these workouts.. If you look at the workout as a whole, the core of it is basically do to get you to lose weight. Sure you might get another lb or two of muscle on your chest, but in reality, you're not getting real strength
I guarantee you that you will not regret investing into a gym membership. There are ways around this if this cannot happen.

qaz -- I don't know about a hybrid torrent, I downloaded each of mine separately. I was just saying you could google "P90x Insanity Hybrid schedule" and it would give you calendars with a mix of both programs made by ordinary people. Insanity is really hard if you aren't strong to begin with, it is mostly lifting your body weight and if you can't do that, you're out of luck. P90x is a little more forgiving because you can have a range of dumbell weights to work from and you can put a chair under you if you're having problems with pull-ups. Up to you. Black Guy your logic fails to reach me. Yeah, you won't get mass with Insanity, in fact you'll probably lose some. But I don't understand how you think a gym membership is so much better from doing P90X. Either way, you're still working out and you're still building muscle. Want to bulk up? Do higher weights and less reps, as well as eating a lot more. Honestly, I'm really confused how you can think a gym membership will bring is such superior results than working out on your own

LOL the first time I did it in my room, with my door locked cause I didn't want my parents to know I was doing it. 10 minutes into it, the volume got really loud during a part where a woman was grunting and groaning, needless to say my mom tried to knock down my door demanding what I was doing. I showed her the video & weights, but I have a feeling she doesn't believe me. Don't make the same mistake I did =/ Have fun getting swole

It's simple: It's because it's bodyweight exercise. THis means that you can only get SO strong, before it completely becomes a cutting routine.
Trust me, I know what I'm talking about seeing that I've tried all 3 methods. IMO P90x is a strength endurance workout; the goal is to prolong the time period in which your muscles contract and retract..so basically it's to be able to get more stamina and fitness..not going to lie, you do pickup quite a bit of base explosive strength, though this gained EVEN MOREEE from Insanity..that shit...
but anyways, my point is 5x5 db curls will ALWAYSS get your arms stronger than simply doing bicep pullups or something..My logic is that it's your bodyweight, so it's not like you're not used to carrying around anymore..while dbs or weights are usually used to ISOLATE a muscle, thus you might not be lifting something with your whole body, but because you are using a SPECIFIC muscle, you're actually making that muscle strongerrrr as a small contributing part to your body.
ehhh that was a little bogged down for my taste, but I hope that makes sense..If it's any consolation, I used to weigh around 180lbs 5"10, now I'm around 187 and it's allll muscle..I hardly lost any muscle at all, because I was making sure my workout would let me lose fat while gaining solid muscle at the same time, so I know a little bit about bb..i have progress pics

Compound lifts will give you the best results IMO, period. Assuming good form. Squat, bench, clean, deadlift. That's where its at. Most efficient and most athletic. Add cardio if you gotta lose weight.
Just hit 185 on bench today and I'm pumpeddd (only weigh 145 and I'm a month into the program).
