What happens when we run out of oil

Hey guys we were disscussing this in civics today and our class came up with chaos. No way to drive cars get food around generate enough electricity for everyone to put it simple NOT EVERYONE WOULD SURVIVE! what do you guys think and how would you survive a world without oil?

No way of driving cars! Bullshit! We've had the technology to make cars that don't run on oil for a LONG time. Oil is just a cheaper way (i think) ethier that or oil companies are extemly greedy.

Our mpg efficiency has stayed about the same (on average about 21 mpg) since the 1970's. It could be a lot better right now but most politicians are involved with oil somehow.

Also just started playing Fallout 3 again so I've had plenty of practice with the apocalypse...

If we ran out of oil then there would be a mad rush for electric cars, motors, green energy, nuclear power plants, wind power solar power hamster power you name it. And there'd be a ridiculous proliferation and we'd be living comfortably on solely oil-free power for the rest of our existence. It'd cost a fuck ton of money but hey we would do it, probably in less than a year. Manufacturers would push that shit to market faster than you can say global warming

Anyway we won't run out of oil though, for a loooooooooong time. We've got fucking PLENTY. We've probably got enough mainland-based oil to last us another few decades, and once that COMPLETELY runs out, there's probably 10x more offshore oil underseas than there ever was on land. We can mine that junks till our teeth fall out (fuck the environmentalist hippies!) no need to worry kids.

Think of all the oil that goes into making the cars though oil for paints and tires and everything then theirs plastic that is basically oil i think wed be fucked unless you live on a farm get a gun and shoot any mofo who tries to steal your food

We can make artificial oil. We can grow those plastics and shit. Once we have a major alternative energy source, like solar satellites, we'll be fine.

Problem with electric cars is... where does the electricity come from?

There's actually a sprayable solar panel out there. It comes in a spray can and all you do is spray it on what you want then connect wires to it and bam, solar panel. Of course it has to be refined, but the technology is there.

Personally I'm extremely interested in going towards a more biotic approach. For instance, you check out living machine waste treatment facilities. It's basically filtering our waste through different environments in a greenhouse with different plants/animals that consume different things, enzymes ect. until it's nearly pure water. And then on top of that you can to harvest the plants and animals.
