Even Tyler Durden had a job... albeit, screwing up movie scenes and pissing in soup... it's still a job and he is still under someone's command. Maybe I'm wrong, but how I see it, just because the job is expendable and he couldn't care less if he lost it, he is still subject to it and doing what someone tells him to.
So true... So many people say that, if they had the chance to be everything they wanted to be, they would take it. Yet they don't. They know exactly what it would take, they just don't have the courage to risk everything they have for everything they could be.

he had a job, then he became an entrepreneur with the soap. No boss.
EDIT:
Look at people like andrew carnegie. Penniless from birth, to ultra rich, and beyond working for a boss in their early years for a short stint, they are self made.

Even if you do have to work under someone for a time, take advantage of it. Learn the hierarchy as you move through it and build respect for your uppers and lowers. Learn the trade from the bottom up, then create your own trade.
Also, one thing no one ever points out: Live like no one else now so that later, you can live like no one else.
What this means is do ALL the hard work now so that later in life you can relax. Be frugal with your excesses and charitable with your profits while building solid emergency funds and saving funds, and invest in compound interest stocks. If you want a great base, get Dave Ramsey's "Foundations in Personal Finance". It'll teach you all about how to go from penniless to a millionaire in your lifetime, and all the things you need to know about a financial life from taxes and budgets to buying a car. Really, I can't recommend this enough.
