So I'm highly philosophical in my views, always trying to reduce the world to something I can understand.
One of the many ways I do this is by defining what it is to be a man, and one way to do that is to say the being a Man is embracing and defending freedom, not in the patriot sort of way.
"I am free, no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do." - Robert A. Heinlein
Understand that your reality is what you make of it, your assumptions are what govern your results. I would rather be free of belief and self-doubt and believe in nothing and achieve greatness.
This is just me, but I hope this provides some perspective for some of you out there.
In return I want to host an open thread for people to post what they feel it is to be a man.

Man = Person of actions + Positivity + Leadership/Dominance + Present .. But I see what you mean, I think that's too deep for me though but the bigger picture is that it is all intertwined so I guess its the same thing.

Sinatra said it best for me:
For what is a man, what has he got? If not himself, then he has naught. To say the things he truly feels; And not the words of one who kneels.
The record shows I took the blows - And did it my way!

I personally prefer some more classic lyrical geniuses "bitches ain't shit but hoes and tricks" ~ Beethoven "To the sweat drip down my balls" ~ Bach "Face down ass up" ~ Rachmaninoff

I feel like what a man is, is best defined in Fight Club (Check the DP). We are supposed to be the opposite of women, but society rips our balls of so to speak. It emasculates us. I feel like in order to "be a man" we should follow the role the nature set for us of trying to become the leader/alpha or die in the process. I think, that since males in the past who achieved this passed on their genes through mating, according to the theory of evolution, we have developed so that these natural alpha actions give us our sense of self, purpose, and happiness, not just mating since these activities were, for the most part, necessary before we were able to pass on our genes.
"We're a generation of men raised by women, I'm wondering if another woman is really the answer we need." -Fight club

Bob Dylan-
“A man is a success if he gets up in the morning and goes to bed at night and in between does what he wants to do.”
I like where this thread is going. Consider it stickied. And Sloth gets +1 for Sinatra

Agree with all you guys but my views resemble those of contempt.
