My friend plays the guitar ALL the time, and he's WAAAY good. He also wants to start a band.
I tell him to be proactive about it. They wont come to you. Put out some ads on the street. Let the word spread through your friends. Go check out local bands and see if they need you. Ask them about other bands. Check out the local music shop.
Sometimes you just have to start small. If you're recognized as a very skilled guitarist at a gig, I'm sure someone will come draft you. Just be proactive.
