Hey I've been working out just cardio and pushups and stuff but I'm ready to kick it up a notch and was wondering which would be more beneficial overall for getting in better shape. I'm currently about 192ish and would like to cut to about 180, I stack on muscle fairly quick and have a wide build, but I was wondering whether it would be better for me to have the plyometrics and cardio of insanity to cut and put on a little muscle or just to sack up and get a gym membership and go there and lift and do cardio there. The Gym I have nearby which I would get a membership for is a rock-climbing gym with a balcony that is full of weights and stuff. I used to work out there a lot for climbing but they get mad and yell at you if you let the weights clang together or make any sound with them at all so I figured I might not be able to really push my max there.
So theres my options: Insanity Vs. Rock/Weight Gym
what do you think?

So what do you want again? short term and long term goals? Wanna lose weight first? Do whatever you want dude, but you won't really gain any muscle while losing fat. Post your diet and how you plan to lose weight.

Short term is lose weight; long term is just be in better shape or get jacked. My diet is really simple like 3 meals a day mostly salads for lunch and dinner and protein shake for breakfast, I plan to lost weight either by doing the high-level cardio or keep doing the normal cardio (running, biking & skiing) I've been doing but combining it with lifting weights

You lose weight mostly through diet, so focus on what you put into your body, instead of focusing too much on burning what you've eaten.

I agree with Norwegian. I find 24 hour fasting or low carb works the best for me, simply because I eat a lot and have a crazy metabolism. It's tough to control yourself, and then when you exercise a lot to burn it off most people end up putting more calories back in than they burnt (seriously, ever seen how many calories are in a gatorade?).

Focus on losing weight, then gaining muscle. Ask for advice on that when you've reached your goal.

soo much silliness.
Wanna get ripped? Eat allot then fucking sweatt like a motherfuckerr. Liekk really kick your ass when youre working out and cardio. tHE KEY IS REALLLLYY KICKING YOUR ASS. The reason why most people dont get results is because they are not pushing themselves..Yeah a gym will benefit you moree long-term Allso how tall are you?
To whoever says you need to watch what you eat, I challenge you.
I firmly believe calorie control, meaning as long as you make sure you fuckin workout consistently, yyou can eat junk and still have a killer body.

Endurance cardio will do NOTHING for you. Running, biking, swimming, etc will only burn you the calories that you do WHILE your doing the exercise. That means those 200 calories you burnt (that took you over half an hour) is all your burning. That's about 1 candy bar. USELESS
What shaves off weight the quickest is HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) or IF (Intermittent Fasting). HIIT includes mostly doing sprints. I have no experience, but from what I've read, I know it's true. Just look at a sprinter's body - They are extremely athletic and extremely cut.
Intermittent fasting is simple. The easiest is just don't eat for 24 hours. You can have water, coffee, and tea. Do that no more than twice a week for as long as you want.
Also, do resistance training. It's similar to HIIT in that it puts on muscle and raises your metabolism (your metabolism is a result of muscle mass on your body - that's why old people have lower metabolism in most cases). Higher metabolism will obviously assist you in losing weight. It's like doing cardio all day (and night). The best resistance training, in my opinion, is bodyweight. Not only does it encourage you to lose weight, it's better for your joints and doesn't require a gym membership. I'd recommend reading Convict Conditioning.
If you don't want to mess with body weight and want to pump iron, I'd recommend StrongLifts 5x5 (look it up) or Starting Strength (look it up).
Some other good books/research: Eat-Stop-Eat (IF book) You Are Your Own Gym Convict Conditioning 2
General advice if you don't care about anything else I said - Lose weight first, then build muscle. If you want to lose weight, insanity is probably good enough for you. Diet is the KEY, though, NOT exercise. You can't out exercise a bad diet. Cut your calories and eat clean. Try Intermittent Fasting if you're interested. Not eating for 24 hours is pretty easy and it makes a big difference. If you read Eat-Stop-Eat you'll learn all about the benefits of fasting (there's actually quite a bit - and it's a short book).
