Let me start out by stating that this is actually a friend, not me. If you want to read about me, my blog is Patriot's blog. (you should read it!) Anyway, this friend of mine is in my grade, and we've been friends since 3rd grade (7 years now). We've stayed friends so long because we have common gaming interests and he's generally a nice guy to be around. However, this year, I've realized some things about him that really need to change. Keep in mind this is really me looking out for my friend, not slandering him or anything. I'll start from the top.
1. His hygiene . He doesn't shower everyday like any guy in puberty should. He stays rather immaculate, but he smells repulsive. He really has to be forced to take showers. Obviously, he really doesn't care how he's coming off to others. Not many people will talk to someone who smells for too long. He also is. Very bad at keeping his room clean.
2. His provincial interests. He talks too much in Internet memes and continually makes references to them, even when his parents are mad at him. There's a time and place for everything. To make it even worse, he's very unfamiliar with the newer memes, so I know a lot more about memes than him, but he uses old memes more than me. I hate to tell him new memes because I know he'll just overuse them. He also doesn't have enough hobbies, which I'll talk about next.
3. He doesn't get around. Not in terms of girls, but he just doesn't take in the experience of high school enough. He wont go to homecoming, he won't join any clubs, (which HE NEEDS for college apps) and he won't go to other high school events. I try to get him to do all of those things with me, but no. Instead he prefers to be a recluse at home. It's sad, really.
4. His attention span. My friend has ADD, and he likes to not take his pills. It's almost like I can tell if he took them when I conversate with him- attention of 3 secs or less means no. When he takes them, he's a lot better in general. He's a lot more like a friend you can have a good conversation with.
5. His social behavior. Now here's one of his problems I can relate to, me having Asperger's and all. My friend is often very oblivious, more than I used to be. Often times he'll utilize his short attention span on conversations, which is BAD. He also is very desperate for electronics, an addiction I cut when I started getting out more, and I expect the same of him. Also his electronics are cutting his grades, unfourtunately. He'll also cut into anyone's personal space for the sake of watching someone without a second thought. That's bad.
So basically what made me write this was the realization that my friend would never survive college/later like this, so I want to do my job as a friend and help him. If anyone has ideas, please let me know. Thanks guys. If you need more info on his mannerisms or the like, let me know.
