We are busy reading a book called Disgrace by J.M Coetzee in English at the moment. Personally I’m finding it really good, possibly one of the best books ive read. If any of you have read it, please let me know, would really like to get some of your guys opinions on it.
It’s basically about this guy, David, who is a professor at some university in Cape Town and lives off sex. He has an affair with one of his students. He seduces her and fucks her multiple times and she then tries to lay charges against him for rape (The feminist bitches in my class agree with this, which annoys me a shit load). He then leaves his job and moves to a farm in the Eastern Cape where he lives with his daughter who is a lesbian. She is raped on the farm by 3 men who break into the house. That’s just a short summary of the book, it’s really good, i really enjoy how the Author manages to get his views across to the reader through the main character ‘David’. I recommend this book to everyone, there’s just something about the novel and David that just opens your mind up. I can’t really explain until you read it and see for yourself.
Here is a quote from the book where David is talking about
relationships and women to the father of the student he had sex with.
“A fire: What is remarkable about that? If a fire goes out, you strike a match and start another one. This is how i used to think. Yet in the olden days people worshiped fire. They thought twice before letting a flame die, a flame-god.” – David Lurie.
Read it and let me get some of your views on it.
