Hello! First, a little bit about my situation and I. I'm 14 years olds, and I go to a small private school where I am in eighth grade, but there is also a high school in the same building and I get to see them a bit, plus I'm good friends with most of them. Anyways, this may not seem important, but it will give context for later.
O.k., so last year my friend who is your average "natural" liked this girl a year ahead of him, who was in a few classes with my friend and I. I talked to her a bit, but I was always (let's just say my friend's name is Liam) "Liam's friend". Fast forward a few months, he asks her out and (this next part I'm not sure about, it all happened over the course of like half an hour and I was told the day after by Liam) she says but they should wait until after finals (this was a few weeks before), he tries to be too physical with her and she is intimidated I guess and then they stop hanging out at the party.
After that, they don't really talk, except for my friend trying to text her. By summer he's over her, and I decided I wanted to go for her, so I text her a few times (very badly, I came off very friendlike. That was before I found here), then she stops responding for some reason. Anyways, school starts this year and I see her in school a few times and she makes eye contact with me and it seemed kind of awkward, but I'm not sure if I'm being awkward or she is. She tried to initiate conversation with me a few days ago, but it was really awkward. I'm not sure if it was me or her though.
Then today, I was walking to get on my bus and she says "hey *my name*, how are you?" I say good, and ask her how she is, then she says good and I get on my bus. I was going to approach her, but I thought it may have looked creepy because I was leaning against the school building alone because I got out early.
So, how can I find ways to have longer conversations with her? The only times I see her are transition times, and I have her number but I feel like it may be weird to text her, but I don't know. Also, she's really shy so that doesn't help. Also, by starting conversation with me do you guys think that is an IOI?
Sorry that this isn't much of a question, I just kind of needed to get this off my chest because I've been kicking myself for not approaching her or continuing the conversation with her. It's weird, usually I'm funny and very conscious around girls, but with her my brain goes into subconscious mode and I like stop thinking and I don't have control of my actions... It is weird... Fuck oneitis...
