Meditation is widely seen as a religious practice, and it commonly is, however, it can be used as an inner game tool. Meditation is defined as "a mental discipline by which one attempts to get beyond the conditioned, 'thinking' mind into a deeper state of relaxation or awareness". Meditation is harder then most people think it is. It is not just sitting in a crossed legged position quietly. You must be able to clear your mind of all thoughts, you must actually see with your minds eye and not only see, but be in the place you see in your mind. Before I get into how inner game and meditation can be related I want to go over a basic meditation exercise.
Meditation is a skill, and thus it must be trained and honed like any other skill. A simple exercise to try is to lay on your back and close your eyes. In your minds eye see a glowing ball of energy hovering above your face. See it move, close and farther, up and down your body. Do this for about twenty min. before bed, but don't go to sleep immediately afterward, I learned the hard way why not, or right after you get up.
Now, I bet you're wondering, "how can this help my inner game?" and I'll tell ya. This is a bit more advanced exercise, so if you can't do it correctly at first, don't fret. To get into the right state of mind you need to remove yourself from your conscience reality. I usually do this by slowly bringing myself into a white room, then, turn the room into a social place, put people in the place, sets of all different caliber, and not only see your self go from set to set (and maybe even close), believe it is happening. You must be able to see this from your own eyes, not a third person view. If you do this before a social event of some sort it will help your inner game for those specific events, but if you do it religiously, so to speak, it will help you build more permanent inner confidence.
