So apparently what I've been buying from stores is inferior compared to dry jeans. Lemme break it down, when you buy jeans in a store they've usually been washed like 20 times to get the fade, wiskering, and any other effects they have. This also negates shrinkage, since they already shrunk. Sounds good to me, I pay $75 and my jeans look badass. Well wait, not if you listen to the Styleforum.
There's a new trend where people are paying for jeans, sometimes $300, that are completely PLAIN! Nothing on em, hardly any stitching on the back, and no whiskering or any effects, just outright denim and indigo. Why? So they can trash em themselves.
Yep, these guys wear these $300 jeans for ~6 months almost nonstop, like 5 days a week! All so those creases can come in naturally. Oh and they don't wash them the entire 6 months. Nope, no water can touch them or it slows the effect progress cause there's less indigo. Then they wash em and they have a perfectly unique pair of jeans that look awesome.
Seriously, these jeans are beautiful! Nothing in stores can compete with how they look. Add to the fact that these are sentimental, sort of like an art project that took half a year, and it makes them invaluable.
So why'd I bring it up? Because I'm going to try it, and the forums been kinda slow lately. Not of course, the expensive ones, but the guys at SF recommend levi's shrink-to-fit for your first pair of dry jeans.
I've got them soaking right now (to accommodate shrinkage so the whiskering/creases end up in the right places) and will soon begin to wear them. I figure I'll wear em maybe twice a week to school and on the weekends, plus when I get home from school. Oh, and instead of 6 months I'll go three.
Anyone else feel like trying this with me? It just seems so appealing to have some jeans that have a story, like how they're faded on your ass because you spent wrestling season sitting on concrete waiting for rides. Or how the outline of you wallet is a perfect match. Depending on how this turns out, some $160 jeans might be in my future, we'll see.
